Sweeney has said that the RFU would be open to hosting Chelsea at Twickenham, should the Blues require a new venue. The Blues have long been looking into upgrading Stamford Bridge, and have also considered a potential move to Earl's Court, although that plan has hit its own stumbling blocks.

Sweeney has said that he has previously held talks with Premier League clubs over moving to Twickenham, but he does believe that local councils may place a few roadblocks in their way.

WHAT BILL SWEENEY SAID

Sweeney said, per The Guardian: “It would allow it to happen. There have been conversations previously about possible Premiership [sic] clubs coming here. Richmond council, Richmond borough is more concerned about that. I just think in terms of impact on local residents, numbers of fans and so on they’re a little bit more sensitive. It may depend on which club it is. It would be a big financial number, I know Richmond borough would definitely have a conversation about that though.”
